Commission for Andrew Oldaker of his character, Kaelyn Riverwind of the Mawi tribe. I absolutely love this piece very much, but I am NOT digging that fur texture, granted he's supposed to be a somewhat wet otter. :) So, I think I'll just do fur the normal way I do them. Also, I need to work on hair! But, that background is rockin' and I love the piece for those reasons. Also, I had to redo this piece twice because Photoshop kept crashing and would mess up the entire picture by doing so. X3

The background is pretty neat with the mist and the nice coloration on the distant mountain, but why are trees tilted? It would make sense if the whole background was tilted, but the lake is level. Also, you should add some more ripples to the lake where the trees are reflected. Oh, and there's no shadow under the character. Er, but the blue fur tattoos are nice. :)

Actually, there are a lot of times where trees in large groups are tilted when the ground is level, especially in places that experience high winds. I love the creepy feel of tilted trees so I added them into the background. I did put a shadow underneath the character, but I guess I needed to make it darker. :)

Thanks for your awesome comment and critique! :D

The misty background is pretty. You have conflicting light sources, though: The light on the mountain in the back is on the left but your figure seems to be lit from the right and the shadow follows neither. The highlight in the eye is a bit wonky, it seems too bright and large. He doesn't look grounded because of a slight halo of lighter values under his planted paws. The edge of the most forward rock is really difficult to see as a rock in the foreground. Instead, it looks like pieces of the leg are missing. He looks a bit more canine than otter. He does have that engaging air of joy that otters tend to have. :3
